Balsamic-Rum Glazed Ribs

By: EB

Hey everyone, so I know that these times are quite hectic with the whole issue of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic happening and many people are starting to get cabin fever, so here’s a recipe to help alleviate some of that cabin fever. Let’s make some delicious Balsamic-Rum Glazed Ribs on our grills!

Ingredients:
2 racks of spare ribs (or baby back ribs)
1 Bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar
(For Rub)
1 tsp of Black Pepper
2 tsp of Smoked Paprika
1 tsp of Ground Ginger
1/2 tsp of Ground Cloves
2 tbsp of Meat Tenderizer
1 tbsp of Onion Salt
1 tbsp of Thyme
1 tbsp of Creole Seasoning
3 tbsp of Garlic Powder
1/2 Cup of Dark Brown Sugar
(For Glaze)
1/2 Cup of Golden Rum
1/2 Cup of Balsamic Vinegar
1/3 Cup of Maple Syrup
  • Step 1: To get started with making this delicious rib recipe, we first need to prep and marinate our ribs. Take your 2 racks of ribs out of their package and set them on a cutting board. In order to increase the effectiveness of the marinade, we need to make shallow crossing slits in the rib meat, this way the apple cider vinegar will be able to penetrate more of the meat resulting in tender ribs. After making our slits, we should cut the rack into smaller racks to make the grilling process easier later on. Finally, we add our prepped ribs to a deep dish and add a bottle of apple cider vinegar to it. The marinating process should last anywhere between 2-4 hrs. or even overnight, depending on how tender you wish the meat to be.
  • Step 2: When the ribs are almost done marinating, start making your rub. In a bowl add 1 tsp of Black Pepper, 2 tsp of Smoked Paprika, 1 tsp of Ground Ginger, 1/2 tsp of Ground Cloves, 2 tbsp of Meat Tenderizer, 1 tbsp of Onion Salt, 1 tbsp of Thyme, 1 tbsp of Creole Seasoning, 3 tbsp of Garlic Powder, and 1/2 Cup of Dark Brown Sugar. Afterwards, whisk all ingredients together to combine well and set it aside.
  • Step 3: Remove ribs from marinade and place on cutting board. To help the rub stick better, gently pat the ribs dry. Afterwards, generously add the rub to the ribs, making sure to thoroughly coat them. When all ribs are coated in rub, place them in a tray and set aside.
  • Step 4: Start your grill coals. *Make sure that your grill reaches at least 400 degrees Fahrenheit prior to adding the ribs.
  • Step 5: Add your ribs to your grill. When you add them, your grill will likely lower in temperature, so while cooking make sure that the temperature stays at around 300 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, the ribs will take approximately 50 minutes to cook thoroughly. Remember to check on them regularly to ensure that they do not burn.
  • Step 6: After adding your ribs, let’s make the glaze. To make the glaze add 1/2 cup of golden rum, 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar, and 1/3 cup of maple syrup. Stir well to combine. *If this seems like too much glaze, then just cut your measurements in half.
  • Step 7: After about 20 minutes of the ribs being on the grill, you can start adding your glaze. For the rest of the cook time, regularly glaze your ribs to ensure a nice finish.
  • Step 8: After approximately 50 minutes, remove your ribs from the grill. They should be tender with a nice color. Enjoy!

Hope you enjoyed today’s recipe. Stay safe everyone!
